Modeling for consolidation
Modeling is the foundation layer that consolidation sheets and rules are built on. System administrators configure modeling components — dimensions (fields) and models — before setting up any consolidation components in the App module.
As a consolidation manager, you need to understand modeling and how it works, even if a system administrator handles the initial setup. Changes to modeling configuration affect all rules and reports that depend on those models.
Dimensions (fields)
Dimensions are the master data structures that define what your data means. Every piece of financial data in Lineos is tagged against a combination of dimension members — for example, a balance sheet amount for Entity A, Account 1000, in EUR, for January 2026 Actual. The following dimensions are required for consolidation to work:
| Dimension | Type | What it represents | Key consolidation properties |
|---|---|---|---|
Entity (Organization Unit) |
Enterprise structure |
The legal entities participating in consolidation |
Consolidation method tagged per entity — determines full, equity, or proportional treatment. |
Account |
Enterprise structure |
Your chart of accounts |
RATETYPE property must be configured on each account — this drives currency conversion. AVG, END, HISTAVG, and CTR are the most common values. |
Time |
System level |
Reporting periods — monthly, quarterly, annual |
Period sequencing drives carry forward and YTD balance calculations. |
Version |
System level |
Scenario versions such as Actual, Budget, and Forecast |
RATE_CATEGORY property is normally blank. Populate when rates from a different version are needed. |
Dataset |
System level |
Classifies data by type |
Key datasets: Entity Input, GAAP Adjustments, Eliminations, Group Journals, Consolidation Adjustments. |
Flow |
System level |
Balance sheet movement types — opening, additions, disposals, closing |
Flow F00 is the opening balance. Carry forward posts to F00. |
Partner Unit (Interco) |
Enterprise structure |
Intercompany trading partner |
Required for intercompany matching and elimination. |
Group (Currency) |
System level |
Reporting currency groups |
Required for currency conversion rules. |
Consolidation sheet
The consolidation sheet is the central workspace where you collect entity data, configure rules, and execute the consolidation process. You create it in the App module (App > [Functional Area] > Sheets). Enabling Consolidate Data in Sheet unlocks all consolidation capabilities.
Creating a consolidation sheet
Navigate to App > [Functional Area]. Click the Add icon or go to the Catalog tab.
Click Add sheet. The sheet layout and Fields panes open.
Add all required consolidation dimensions: Time, Version, Entity, Partner Unit, Group (Currency), Dataset, Account, and Flow.
Drag dimensions to Rows and Columns as required. Click Create sheet on the Level 2 header.
Open Sheet details > Features tab. Enable Consolidate Data in Sheet.
Enable additional options as required — see the table below.
Consolidation sheet options
| Option | What it does | When to enable |
|---|---|---|
Maintain as YTD balance |
Stores P&L data cumulatively from January forward. |
Enable for all income statement accounts in group P&L reporting. |
Track Interco Detail |
Tracks intercompany trading partner data within the sheet. |
Enable when you need intercompany matching and reconciliation reports. |
Enable Auto Journals |
Activates automatic journal rule processing in the sheet. |
Enable when your configuration includes investment elimination, NCI, goodwill, CTR, or deferred tax auto journal rules. |
Elimination |
Enables intercompany elimination rule execution in the sheet. |
Enable when you are configuring intercompany elimination rules. |
Default consolidation metrics
When you enable Consolidate Data in Sheet, these metrics are created automatically and cannot be removed:
| Metric | What it stores |
|---|---|
Entity Input |
Entity-level financial data as submitted by the entity user. |
Entity GAAP Adjustments |
Local GAAP or statutory adjustments at entity level. |
Entity Equity Adjustment |
Equity-level adjustments for the entity. |
Eliminations |
Intercompany elimination entries from elimination rules. |
Group Journals |
Group-level consolidation journal entries from auto journal rules. |
Group Adjustments |
Consolidation adjustments posted at group level. |
Total Consolidated |
The aggregation of all metrics — the final consolidated balance. |
Reporting Override Input |
Manual overrides for reporting purposes. |
BPF / Board
A Business Process Flow (BPF) board brings together sheets, snippets, and visual components into a single operational workspace for your consolidation cycle. A well-configured BPF board includes:
| BPF component | Purpose |
|---|---|
Input templates |
Entity data submission forms — trial balance, IC details, balance sheet flow, NTA, cash flow. |
Validation reports |
Data quality reports so entity users can review results before submitting. |
Control check indicators |
Visual green / amber / red status showing whether blocking controls pass or fail. |
Consolidation action triggers |
Execute carry forward, currency conversion, elimination, and group consolidation from one place. |
Consolidated reports |
Final output showing the consolidated balance sheet, P&L, and supporting schedules. |
